The DU Amache Project is a community-based archaeology of the Granada Relocation Center, or Amache Internment Camp, in southeastern Colorado, led by Dr. Bonnie Clark. As a field school crew chief and creative collaborator for three seasons, I worked with former internees, descendants, and students ranging from 14 to 85 years old to document and remix the history of this important, often traumatic time in US History. The project incorporates best practices for community engagement and meaningful dialogue across local and descendant communities. I have also developed a super 8 film project with Brea Weinreb in 2018 using home movies taken in camp and new footage taken by field school students and volunteers.
